About the author

Tapati Amber Sarasvati is a former single parent and mother of 2. She was a welfare recipient while attending Cabrillo Community College and the University of California at Santa Cruz, where she received a B.A. in Anthropology. Her thesis was about societal attitudes about welfare (and women) and how those attitudes affect policy decisions. A copy of the thesis in html is in progress and will be added to this site.

Ms. Sarasvati currently works as a bookkeeper for a local internet service provider and in her free time edits the online magazine Uppity Women at http://www.labyris.com/Uppity/index.html.
