There is no one right way to create a budget. I will start by providing the simplest method I know of. But I welcome any tips or methods that work well for the reader.
Keep in mind that a budget for a person living in poverty will be very different than a budget considered standard for the middle class. I used to read such budget systems in finance books when I was in poverty and the notion of several hundred dollars per year for such things as clothes or entertainment was completely foreign to me. Entertainment consisted of books from the library, tv, bootlegged tapes, and the very occasional new tape, book, or movie. Dinner out? Maybe a few times per year.
I welcome also any suggestions for low cost or free entertainment, best hiking spots that don't require admission (as state parks do), etc. I suggest for one, seeing art exhibits in public buildings such as the county building, metro cente, and Louden Nelson Center.
