Fat Pride Issue is Available at uppitywomen.net
Site Redesign!
I've been planning to redesign my site for some time, and the split of
Uppity Women Magazine to it's own url (see below) hastened the need for that
process. For people accustomed to the old home page(s), they will still be
available for viewing at old homepage. Be sure to
check out the archive link for new labyris pages. I hope the new pages will
be less wordy and intimidating. I think spreading some of that wordiness around
will help make it more accessible.
Uppity Women Magazine has its own domain name now--www.uppitywomen.net. I wanted an easy-to-remember url (both .com and .org were taken) and felt it would make the difference between the resource archive projects of labyris.com and the magazine clearer to new readers. The two sites will still be linked together.
Calendar has been discontinued. I haven't had time to stay on top of it, I've been very busy at work. Since I will be moving next summer (2002) I wanted to get away from tying my sites to a local area. I'd prefer the anonymity of no one knowing exactly where I live.
Upcoming issues include Women's Spirituality (need submissions) and Mental Illness and Women (can cover any mental illness and how it affects women's lives and the lives of their children). There will also be open topic issues. Email editor
Visualize a circle of nine women, each on a journey of spiritual deepening. For the full turning of the Wheel of the Year, they meet at new and full moons, under the guidance of a priestess, coming together to share, strengthen, and encourage. The gentle framework of an apprenticeship program provides form and inspiration. The presence of the Goddess blesses their voyage. Are you one of the nine? Ninth Wave, a Circle of Goddess Magic, is facilitated by Lunaea Weatherstone (founding mother, SageWoman magazine, Priestess of Brigid, Temple and Fellowship of Isis). For more information, see the Ninth Wave web site at ninthwave or call 454-9619. Internet access is a prerequisite for this program.

Emergency contraception website with information in both Spanish and English.
The Manifesto (Santa Cruz's monthly paper for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered people [and their straight friends] ) is always looking for submissions from queer women. Queries or submissions may be emailed to:NonHetPapr@aol.com or sent to P.O. Box 2701, Watsonville, CA 95076-2701.
Women's History Challenge: Can you name 10 women from American history? Learning about the accomplishments and courage of women both now and in our past is important to our growth as feminists. The following sites are useful resources: Weekly Profiles of Women , Distinguished Women of Past and Present, and African-American Women On-line Archival Collections.
Spanish page update: Looks like another translator has come forward-hope to have Spanish pages soon. and I am willing to pay, do barter (web design?) or whatever it takes to make this happen! I am seeking submissions in Spanish, or bilingual submissions. I am also open to pages in other languages if people come forward to help translate and edit them.
Multicultural Sites: There are entire groups of women who are either poorly represented on the internet or are not there at all. And there are refreshing and highly creative pages out there trying to address this lack, such as Exoticize This, La Malinchista, and National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance. A great organization battling racism and hate groups: The Southern Poverty Law Center.
For cool uppity women t-shirts and other stuff check out uppitywomen.com. We are not affiliated--just two women who liked the same phrase. And someone registered upppitywomen.org a year ago, check that out also. Besides sites, there's also an Uppity Women mailing list that predates my magazine (and is independent of it) available from onelist.com. There are two more Uppity sites: www.zebra.net/~llangdon/uppity.html and http://members.aol.com/aurorahe/index.htm. It's interesting that several of us identified with the term that strongly. Have another "uppity" site? Let me know.
