This is a place for uppity women. You know who you are. You are a woman who refuses to keep your place, to limit yourself in any way, to live down to others' expectations. You are a woman who gets up again and again, every time life knocks you down. You've learned how to survive. Now it's time to learn how to prosper.

My writing can now be found at Livejournal. I also have a forum for former members of the Hare Krishna Movement at Gaudiya Repercussions.

Heart disease is the number one killer of women!

In 2001 I had a quadruple bypass surgery and heart attack (after surgery) at the age of 42. Talk to your doctor about your risk factors for heart disease. Heart disease kills more women than ALL cancers combined! Learn more about heart disease and women at Womenheart.org.

Uppity Women Magazine Suspends Publication

I have had to reorder my priorities in the past few years as I recovered from heart surgery and the subsequent heart attack. I've finally realized that I must put my energy into my own writing and spending time with family and friends rather than editing. I decided I also want to do more volunteer work in my own community, and got involved in suicide prevention counseling and Triangle Speakers, a GLBT advocacy group. It seems like now is the time for liberals to get more involved in building bridges to others in our society and to express our own moral values more clearly. In that spirit I began my blog at livejournal.

I had thought about selling Uppity Women but as an offer was made I realized that it's like my baby and I would prefer to keep it as an archive of previous issues. Perhaps as I delve into my personal writing I will periodically post some of it here also. Please enjoy previous issues and continue to be uppity in your own lives.

I am working on some new material also for the surviving poverty project on labyris.com, if you have poverty cooking recipes or hints on budgeting for that section, please see the relevant topic on livejournal. Please note whether you want your name mentioned. Thanks!
