Labyris: For Uppity Women

Sister Site of Uppity Women Magazine

This is a place for uppity women. You know who you are. You are a woman who refuses to keep your place, to limit yourself in any way, to live down to others' expectations. You are a woman who gets up again and again, every time life knocks you down. You've learned how to survive. Now it's time to learn how to prosper.

Announcements

I apologize for my lengthy absence from these pages. I was diagnosed in 2001 with heart disease at the age of 42, and was quickly scheduled for a quadruple coronary artery bypass surgery. I had a heart attack following the surgery, and a long recovery. Since then I've been dealing also with chronic fatigue and migraines, anemia, and sleep apnea. My focus has been on recuperating and working on my relationship with my husband, strained under the onslaught of so many illnesses. I've also been enjoying my young grandsons, born in 2001 and 2003, and spending lots of time with family and friends.

Now I am returning my attention to the web and to my writing, and working on the recipes and other ideas for the surviving poverty project on this website. If you have poverty cooking recipes or hints on budgeting for that section, please see the relevant topic on livejournal. Please note whether you want your name mentioned. You can use the comment field to add your input. Thanks!

My writing can now be found at Livejournal. I also have a forum for former members of the Hare Krishna Movement at Gaudiya Repercussions.

Have you checked out your heart health? Heart disease is the number one killer of women (and men). You can learn more at Womenheart.org.

I'd like to direct your attention to the following sites that are of help to women suffering from poverty or abuse:
Heifer.org,   Women For Women International,   ijm.org,   and htcfl.org.
